One-way Model Translation
From A to B
A One Way Model Translation with Konstru

A one way translation refers to the process of translating a 3D BIM model from one linked Konstru platform, to another.
One of the most popular Konstru workflows, one way translations save huge amounts of time spent rebuilding a single building model in multiple 3D modeling platforms. With Konstru, you can build a model in Revit, then translate this model directly into ETABS, with all the BIM attributes intact, meaning you're just about ready to run some analysis.
User Example - Claire has built a Reivt model of her structure to collaborate with the Architect. She now needs to create an ETABS model of the same building to begin analyzing the structure. With Konstru, Claire can upload her Revit analytic model geometry and then download this model directly to ETABS!
Benefits of One Way Translation:
Time saved rebuilding 'the same' model in multiple platforms.
Better coordination between the same model in different platforms.
Before you Upload: There are many options available to a Konstru user who wants to translate a model from one platform to another:
Only using a portion of the whole model? Create Groups or use a manual selection prior to launching Konstru.
Want to translate only Columns? Or perhaps just the floor framing and slabs, but making a group is cumbersome? Use Filters!
Translating from Revit to an analysis platform? You made need some Framing Repair
Why Konstru instead of just Export Import?
Such a model translation with Konstru expands greatly on the traditional AEC industry 'export model > import model' process familiar to many software users by capturing all the relevant attributes that describe the objects, not just their geometric representation. This means that when you are downloading a model from Konstru to your chosen platform, you get the highest fidelity BIM model possible based on what was present in the Konstru database.
Example One Way Translation
In the clip below I demonstrate taking multi-story tower model from Reivt and creating a ETABS model from it with Konstru in under 2 minutes.
One Way Model Updates
One way model updates are considered to be when one model (A) is used to update another model (B), but no data or geometry from model B is used to make any changes to model A (which would be considered a 'Round Trip translation', covered in the next section!).
Such updates are an added benefit to a standard one way model translation (and are impossible with traditional file import + export approaches!). Users can leverage the fact that any changes made to the project model, be it changes to grid locations, or building geometry or object attributes, can be propagated into the other linked Konstru models with the click of a button.
Benefit's of One Way Model Updates
Time saved making the same changes to the multiple models over and over
Better co-ordination across all your 3D models between project critical objects, like Grid and Levels.
