Round Trip Model Translation
From A to B and back to A
Rounds Trips with Konstru

A round trip translation refers to the process of translating a 3D BIM model from one linked Konstru platform to another (A to B) , and subsequently updating the original model with changes/ attributes that were applied in the translated model (B to A).
Round Trip translations take the benefits gained from a one way model translation, and expand on them exponentially by allowing for any data generated in the translated model to be seamlessly integrated into the original model. Much of this work is traditionally done via a 'manual mark-up' process where relevant data is printed out and then input to the appropriate objects to appear on a printed page. With Konstru, it's possible to take this sometimes weeks long process, and turn it into a couple of button clicks.
User Example: Project Engineer Tracey build's a Revit model of his new 10 story project. He uploads his Revit model to Konstru and uses this to create an ETABS and a RAM model which she will use to analyze the structure. With the analysis complete, Tracy then updates the Konstru model with Sections sizes from RAM, and with framing end forces from ETABS. By subsequently updating the Revit model with this data, Tracy has an accurate, data rich BIM model, ready for annotation and drawing creation.
Benefits of Round Trip Translation:
Time saved manually transferring data from one BIM model to another.
The ability to propagate changes from one model to any other Konstru linked model.

Things to note when implementing Round Trip translations
Apples and Oranges - Most of the models in the Konstru zoo have differing requirements, be they geometric or data attributes. With Konstru, you're able to directly link these different models, and to give the highest fidelity translations it important to manage these differences between models. Konstru give users these tools....which you can learn more about below:
